Description: Cabbage leaves stuffed with brown rice and hamburger meat. Tomato/celery sauce with it.

Serving Size: 4 (2 stuffed cabbage leaves per serving)

Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Preparation: Preheat oven to 375.

  • 8 large cabbage leaves
  • 3/4 lb. ground beef
  • 1 clove fresh minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup diced green pepper
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 slightly beaten egg.
  • 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. dried dill weed
  • 1/8 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. white sugar
  • toothpicks
  • Immerse Cabbage leaves in boiling water for 3 minutes until limp. Drain and if needed cut some off the end with the bigger veins.
  • Brown meat mixture with all ingredients except egg. Allow to cool.
  • Combine sauce ingredients in large skillet or saucepan. Bring to a slow boil.
  • Add egg to meat mixture.
  • Remove 1/4 of sauce mixture and set aside. Add rest of sauce to meat mixture.
  • Heat sauce/meat mixture to a slow simmer.
  • Take cabbage leaves and spoon a large spoonful in center of each one. Fold in sides and roll ends over, securing cabbage leaf closed with a toothpick.
  • Place all stuffed cabbage leaves in a bakable container like a 9" X 13". Pour remaining sauce over top of cabbage leaves.
  • Cook in oven at 375 for 45 min. Let cool and serve.
